Why it made the list

Electrum Performance is what happens when sports science meets a neighborhood gym. Founder and head coach Alex Sterner studied kinesiology at the University of Connecticut, built his career as a strength coach and helped prepare the Atos jiu-jitsu team that won IBJJF World team titles in 2017 and 2018. He’s a jiu-jitsu brown belt himself, which explains why so many grapplers train here.

The gym describes itself as evidence-based and writes individualized programs rather than one-size-fits-all workouts. Services span personal training, small-group training, athletic performance, physique work and glute-focused programming, with particular attention to training safely around injuries. The result is a gym that serves serious athletes and first-time lifters with the same rigor.
