Island Yoga Coronado

Why it made the list

Island Yoga Coronado occupies a bright second-floor studio in the Coronado Plaza building on Orange Avenue, a block from the beach and within sight of the Hotel del Coronado. It’s the island’s dedicated hot studio, and its schedule covers the full range of heat: the traditional 90-minute Bikram series and a 60-minute express version, heated mat Pilates set to upbeat music and often done with light weights, and unheated yin for slower, deeper stretching.

The studio’s owner, Stephanie Anderson, is a Coronado native who has practiced Bikram for nearly two decades. She began teaching at the studio in 2016 and later took over ownership, and that continuity shows in reviews that praise both the instructors and the welcoming, all-levels atmosphere. Locals use it as their home studio; visitors staying on the island tend to call it a highlight of the trip.

Best for

Hot-yoga devotees, Bikram traditionalists, and anyone on Coronado — resident or visitor — who wants a serious sweat a block from the sand.

Good to know

The studio has offered new-student pricing and military discounts, a meaningful perk in a Navy town. Classes can be bought individually, in packs or as a membership.
